KUALA LUMPUR 7 Ogos - Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak menganggap penularan wabak selesema babi atau influenza A (H1N1) yang melanda negara pada masa ini adalah amat serius.

Sehubungan itu beliau menasihatkan rakyat supaya mengambil langkah pencegahan menyeluruh termasuk mengelak daripada menghadiri majlis perhimpunan awam sekiranya tidak perlu.

Beliau juga meminta orang ramai menjaga kebersihan diri dengan lebih kerap membasuh tangan dan memakai topeng muka bila perlu.

Beliau berkata demikian pada sidang akhbar selepas merasmikan Konvensyen Industri Sukan Malaysia (KISMAS 09) di sini hari ini.

Wolverine is a superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Incredible Hulk #180 (October 1974) and was created by writer Len Wein and Marvel art director John Romita Sr., who designed the character, and was first drawn for publication by Herb Trimpe.^[1] Wolverine later joined the X-Men's "All New, All Different" roster in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975). X-Men writer Chris Claremont played a significant role in the character's subsequent development as well as artist/writer John Byrne, who insisted on making the character older than the other X-Men. Artist Frank Miller collaborated with Claremont and helped to revise the character with a four-part eponymous limited series from September to December 1982 in which Wolverine's catch phrase, "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice," debuted.

Born James Howlett^[2] and commonly known as Logan, Wolverine is a mutant, possessing animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, retracting bone claws, and a healing factor that allows him to quickly recover from virtually any wound, disease or toxin, also enabling him to live beyond a normal human lifespan. This healing ability enabled the supersoldier program Weapon X to bond the near indestructible metal alloy adamantium to his skeleton and claws without killing him. Wolverine was typical of the many tough anti-authority anti-heroes that emerged in American popular culture after the Vietnam War;^[3] his willingness to use deadly force and his brooding nature became standard characteristics for comic book anti-heroes by the end of the 1980s.^[4] As a result, the character became the clear favorite for fans of the increasingly popular X-Men franchise.^[5] Wolverine has been featured in his own solo comic since 1988 and has been a central character in every X-Men adaptation, including animated television series, video games, and the live-action 20th Century Fox X-Men film series, in which he is portrayed by Hugh Jackman.^[6]

In May 2008, Wolverine was ranked #1 out of "Wizard Magazine's Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time"^[7] and was ranked #4 of "The 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters" by Empire Magazine in July 2008.^[8]

TERBONGKAR sudah rahsia yang dulunya digenggam kemas. Segala-galanya yang selama ini menjadi teka-teki dan tanda tanya terlerai satu demi satu. Kelmarin, di atas pentas Theatrette, Palace Of The Golden Horses, pasangan kekasih Mawi dan Ekin membawa perkhabaran indah yang mungkin dinanti-nantikan peminat mereka.

Mengulangi kembali sejarah dua tahun dulu yang pernah dilakukan Datuk Siti Nurhaliza dan suaminya Datuk Seri Khalid Mohd Jiwa, Mawi mengikuti jejak pasangan itu dengan mengadakan sebuah sidang media khas untuk mengumumkan tarikh pernikahan mereka.

Ibarat pepatah lembu dipegang pada tali, manusia dipegang pada janji, Mawi nyata menunaikan janjinya sebelum ini yang mahukan semua media berkumpul bersama-sama dan mendengar sendiri tarikh perkahwinan mereka yang sahih menerusi mulutnya sendiri.

Hasil perbincangan dengan keluarga kedua-dua belah pihak, Mawi dan Ekin sepakat memilih tarikh 20 Disember sebagai hari pernikahan.

“Tarikh 20 Disember itu sebenarnya tidak membawa sebarang makna apa-apa cuma kebetulan tarikh itu jatuh pada cuti sekolah. Senang saudara mara nak datang. Selepas majlis akad nikah, sebelah malamnya pula iaitu di Stadium Tertutup JB akan berlangsung majlis kenduri sebelah pihak perempuan.

Tanjung Piai-Johor National Park

Dubbed the southernmost tip of mainland Asia, Tanjung Piai is a haven for a diverse species of flora and fauna, including those unique to mangrove areas such as mangrove crabs, beady-eyed mudskippers and crab-eating macaques. The most prominent event of this month is the fasting (sawm) which should be practiced by all Muslims. Every day during the Blessed month of Ramadan Muslims around the world get up before dawn to eat Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, and perform the fajr prayer. They do not eat or drink anything after this prayer is said, until the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib (sunset), is due. Muslims may continue to eat and drink after the sun has set, until the next morning's fajr prayer.

During Ramadan, Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and to avoid obscene and irreligious sights and sounds. Sexual thoughts and activities during fasting hours are also forbidden.^{[Qur'an 2:187]} Purity of both thought and action is important. The fast is intended to be an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. Properly observing the fast is supposed to induce a comfortable feeling of peace and calm. It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, and sympathy for those who are less fortunate. It is also intended to make Muslims more generous and charitable.

Those who are traveling, pregnant women who fear for the health of their unborn, and those with severe health problems related to eating are exempt from fasting. One reason for this could be that lack of food and liquid in these situations could be detrimental to one's health. While fasting is not considered compulsory in childhood (which ends at puberty), many children endeavour to complete as many fasts as possible as practice for later life.

First Malaysian In SPACE

The 1725th flight of a Soyuz launch vehicle was performed Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 7:22 p.m. Baikonur time (3:22 p.m., in Paris).

Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, a 35-year-old doctor and part-time model, blasted off Wednesday aboard a Russian Soyuz space craft with Russian cosmonaut Yury Malenchenko and NASA's Peggy Whitson.

The project to have a homegrown "angkasawan" was part of a billion-dollar purchase of 18 Sukhoi 30-MKM fighter jets from Russia.

Muszaphar was chosen from thousands of hopefuls in a nationwide competition that generated tremendous excitement in Malaysia, which is celebrating its half-century of independence from British colonial rule.

Muszaphar, who blasted off from the Baikonur launch centre that Russia runs in Kazakhstan, is due to return to earth on October 21.

During his mission, Muszaphar will conduct experiments on behalf of Malaysia's Genome Institute, including tests on cancer cells

The New Year is an event that happens when a culture celebrates the end of one year and the beginning of the next year. Cultures that measure yearly calendars all have New Year celebrations.

Do you know historical dates for the New Year?

The ancient Roman calendar had only ten months and started the year on 1 March, which is still reflected in the names of some months which derive from Latin: September (seventh), October (eighth), November (ninth), December (tenth). Around 713 BC the months of January and February were added to the year, traditionally by the second king, Numa Pompilius, along with the leap month Intercalaris. The year used in dates was the consular year, which began on the day when consuls first entered office — fixed by law at 15 March in 222 BC [1], but this event was moved to 1 January in 153 BC. In 45 BC, Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar, dropping Intercalaris; however, 1 January continued to be the first day of the new year.

In the Middle Ages in Europe a number of significant feast days in the ecclesiastical calendar of the Roman Catholic Church came to be used as the beginning of the Julian year:

In Christmas Style dating the new year started on 25 December. This was used in Germany and England until the thirteenth century, and in Spain from the fourteenth to the sixteenth century.

In Annunciation Style dating the new year started on 25 March, the feast of the Annunciation. This was used in many parts of Europe in the Middle Ages, and was the style introduced by Dionysius Exiguus in AD 525. Annunciation Style continued to be used in the Kingdom of Great Britain until January 1, 1752, except Scotland which changed to Circumcision Style dating on 1 January 1600. The rest of Great Britain changed to Circumcision Style on the 1 January preceding the conversion in Great Britain from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar on 3/14 September 1752. The UK tax year still starts on 6 April which is 25 March + 12 days, eleven for the conversion from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar plus a dropped leap day in 1900.

In Circumcision Style dating, the new year started on 1 January, the Feast of the Circumcision (of Jesus).

The fourth pillar of Islam, which is fasting, is practiced during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is derived from an Arabic word for intense heat and scorched ground. (in Arabic: رمضان, Ramaḍān) – – and it is the ninth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, established in the year 638 CE. It is considered the most venerated, blessed and spiritually-beneficial month of the Islamic year. Prayers, fasting, charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time; religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month.

"Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. Allah wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify Allah for guiding you, and to express your appreciation."[2:185]
The most holy night during the Ramadan is Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power). It has more blessing than a thousand months. See chapter 97 of the Quran.

Fasting
